Be Thankful

cambodiaI’m Rich.

The average Cambodian worker lives on $100 a month. My budget for Se Asia is $2000 a month. Tonight I’m sleeping in a non-air conditioned room with a shared shower for $6 a night. A pitcher of beer costs $4, an omelette  with veggies and a baguette costs $3.50. An all day boat cruise with lunch, snorkelling and trekking costs $23. This really is the land of opportunity…if you’re a rich westerner like myself.

We all love to complain from time to time about our looks, our inability to attract a woman, our measly two weeks vacation or the constantly delayed updates to the Playstation store. But on the bright side, we don’t have to sell our daughters into prostitution to keep the farm afloat.

I’m having a great time over here. When I return home I’ll be thankful for everything I have and I’ll work harder to make sure I never, ever, have to beg for money to eat.

Funny note, the Thai and Cambodian men have sick game. They’re constantly hitting on western girls and often they’re quite successful at it. Their game consists of saying things like, “You my new girlfriend. What room you in? Me see you at six. You afraid of spiders? Me Spiderman. You like Chocolate? Me Mr.Chocolate.”

Some of them are Rastas and pickup hippie girls. Some of them are Suave and pick up older women. But the average guy over here is more masculine than the average Westerner. It looks like Feminism hasn’t landed here yet. No wonder the white women are easy pickings. The men are still men. (I mean, except for the lady boys.)

You would think the Thai and Cambodians are desperate to escape their countries, but they’re not. Most of them love it here. So why is it most of us need to escape? Why are we so mixed up?

  1. It’s a good article overall, but I don’t get why you are anti feminist. The feminism hasn’t landed there, maybe the day it will they won’t have to sell their “daughters into prostitution to keep the farm afloat”. In my opinion a strong independent confident woman is sexy. Very sexy. On the other hand a woman who relies on her man for her happiness, and can’t do anything herself it’s sick and insane. This is how I see feminism and why I support it. Cheers.

    1. @ TJ, I don’t think he’s against Feminists at all. He’s postulating that Feminism hasn’t sunk in there yet, ergo, the male population still objectifies them ala 50s/60s North American culture.
The mere fact that he even mentions how women are treated where he is, in contrast to where he’s from, exemplifies his knowledge and stance on his belief in Feminism.

      1. Some comments just don’t deserve a response. It’s like farting into a black hole, who knows what will nonsense will come back at you.

  2. @JG You might be right.
@Tony D, I wasn’t rude at all so I don’t get your attitude, and if you recall in general my comments on this blog are very positive towards what you wrote here. I am only into sharing ideas, nothing bad or anything.

    1. Sorry Man. I appreciate you. Had a bout of food poisoning and got backed up on messages for “Why won’t she text me back.”

What I’m saying about feminism not landing yet, is that feminism encourages women to be sluts, and discourages men from sexual aggression. So the men out here aren’t worried about being sued, and the women are open to being slutty. I’m not necessarily anti anything. I just think everything is fucked up with gender roles.

  3. I moved to Canada from Europe and I’ve also been to Thailand and Cambodia.

I also thought how nice that feminism hadn’t arrived there yet. I don’t mean ‘wow this is great the women here are so easy to control because they haven’t found feminism.’

I mean it was nice because the women were feminine and seemed to appreciate and like men. And also there didn’t seem to be a culture of blaming men for all the ill’s of the world.

The other poster finds strong confident women very sexy, his prerogative but myself I don’t.

I find them to be people I may respect, maybe would do business deals with them, maybe have a political discussion with them. I often find myself talking to them like I would to one of my male buddies.
But that’s mostly about it, sexy isn’t a word I use for them.

Sure in Cambodia there are some family’s that may sell a daughter into prostitution, but the percentage is very small.
There are also people that sell there son for labouring slave like jobs and of course if a war comes then it’s always the sons that will be sent to be killed in that one.
